The Anxiety and Depression Association of America explains that lack of sleep often triggers anxiety in patients. The average adult person should sleep between 7 and 8 hours every day, when you slice that in half, there’s no way that you have the energy to work well during the day. The lack of sleep stresses the body physically and mentally and prevents the brain from recovering fully during rest. It is believed that when a person sleeps, the brain regenerates neurons that can affect areas of thought, emotion and health. Some scientists believe that the temporal lobe can shut off when the brain doesn’t get any sleep. In some cases, sleep depravation can cause the brain to start hallucinating and even mimic symptoms of schizophrenia. Lack of sleep also causes your hormones to become unbalanced, which can contribute to anxiety.
