To Detox or Not…
Detoxification is all the rage when it comes to new weight loss trends. Many new diets and dietary supplements advertise special properties that may help us reach our goal of freeing our body of those undesirable toxins.
What is a detox? A detox diet is the process or period of time in which you abstain from eating toxic or unhealthy foods. Many fad diets and detox plans advice people to completely stop eating and this is very unhealthy. During your detox, you should not deprive yourself of eating, but instead maintain a diet of raw fruits and vegetables, natural fruit juices you can make at home and plenty of water. In addition, some detox diets advocate using herbs and other supplements along with colon cleansing (enemas) to empty the intestines.
Like most diets and healthy eating regimens, detox diets eliminate processed foods high in unhealthy fats and loaded with sugar such as fried foods, chocolate, and most pastries. By removing these foods from your overall diet you will not only feel better, but also you will typically see a difference in your waistline. Detox diets may be used as a method of weight loss, but as in all diets and strict regimens, new users should consult with their doctor prior to drastically altering their diet.
