Selena Gomez is Billboard’s Woman of the Year and this couldn’t come at a better time for the singer, who’s had to deal with a lot of health issues this year. Over the last couple of years, she’s had to deal with the pains of lupus, including anxiety, depression, and kidney failure and transplant.
It’s definitely been one of the toughest years for the singer, but yet she’s been making music and has even helped raise $500,000 for lupus research. She was recently quoted saying that she doesn’t want people to feel sad for her over her kidney transplant and lupus.

Even the scar from her kidney transplant was something that she struggled with at first, but she’s in a better place now. “I remember looking at myself in the mirror completely naked and thinking about all the things that I used to bitch about and just asking, ‘Why?’ I had someone in my life for a very long time who pointed out all the things that I didn’t feel great about with myself. When I look at my body now, I just see life. There are a million things I can do — lasers and creams and all that stuff — but I’m OK with it,” she said to Billboard.
