Summer is just around the corner and with it comes days at the beach and spending more time doing outdoor activities. Most of us are tired of the cold and are ready to get outside to enjoy everything the summer has to offer, but just like your skin, your hair needs sun protection.
Chlorine, high temperatures and prolonged exposure to the sun are a few elements that can affect your hair. Here we have a couple of tips on how to care for your hair during hot summer weather:
Dyed hair
Summer is the perfect time to experiment with the color of your hair. A lot of people apply cheerful colors like pink, blue or even green! There are others who prefer to get highlights, like Californian wicks. You don’t want the sun or the chlorine from the pool to turn your hair green or a different color you just didn’t ask for…to combat these problems we have two options that are rich in proteins and will help protect your colored hair.
An egg hair mask is very rich in protein, simply add two teaspoons of vinegar and two teaspoons of olive oil into a container. Mix all ingredients well and apply to the hair for half an hour. Then wash your hair thoroughly with your regular shampoo.
A banana mask is also rich in protein, mix a banana with two tablespoons of olive oil and apply it all over your hair for 15 minutes and then rinse it off.
Both masks will help you have strong hair and keep your dye job longer and keep it looking healthy. Use one of these masks once a week.
Dry hair
Dryness causes hair to lose its natural shine. To recover the healthy shine, we recommend an avocado mask or coconut oil mask. Both ingredients are super moisturizing and contain many nutrients. Choose the one you like best! Simply take the ingredient you prefer, put it in a bowl with a teaspoon of natural yogurt and mix well. We recommend that you apply the mix to your hair for thirty minutes. Keeping the mix in your hair for longer than 30 minutes will not make your hair any more hydrated. Rinse your hair and shampoo it as normal and enjoy a smooth and shiny mane. Again, it is advisable to use these once a week.
Hair with frizz
Humidity is the number one enemy of hair and taming frizzy hair is not easy. If you are one of those people who suffer from frizzy hair during the summer, we recommend not applying excessive heat to your hair. Avoid dryer and straighteners. The more you dry your hair, the more frizz you will have. You can also try anti-frizz products. Maybe this is not the cheapest option, but it sure is the most effective. There are natural remedies available as well, such as apple cider and vinegar. After shampooing your hair, apply the apple cider and vinegar mix (one cup of each) to your hair for approximately 30 seconds. Then rinse out thoroughly with cool water and condition like you normally would.
Apart from these wonderful remedies, it is advisable to cut a little hair before and after summer. Hair tends to grow faster during the warm months, so take advantage of that.
Remember to also rinse your hair with fresh water after swimming at the beach and/or pool and spend a great number of hours in the sun wearing a cap. If you take care of your skin remember to take care of your hair as well!
