He would manipulate her to do things and would make up stories about her, including hiding the amount of success of the first album she and her brother did, which he produced, called “Las Primeras Golondrinas”. She remembers him opening a bottle of champagne and congratulating her and her brother because their album was number one in Venezuela but they later found out that it was never even out in that country.
Lucía finally got the nerve to tell her brother about the way he was treating her. Joaquín and their ex-manager then went to tell him to stop bothering her and he did. “Now I understand everything that he did to me and that I was an adolescent that was abused,” she writes in her book.
With the help of her brother and family, she was able to leave him and their career as singers continued and very successful for decades.
