Tener Músculos Fuertes Fortalece La Memoria

Mejorar la fuerza muscular podría mejorar la función cerebral en las personas con problemas leves de memoria y pensamiento, encuentra un nuevo estudio.

La investigación incluyó a 100 personas de 55 a 86 años de edad; todas tenían problemas leves de memoria y pensamiento (deterioro cognitivo leve).

Los voluntarios del estudio que realizaron entrenamiento con pesas dos veces por semana durante seis meses con hasta un 80 por ciento de su fuerza máxima mostraron mejoras significativas en el funcionamiento mental.weights

Los beneficios duraron durante al menos un año tras el final de sus sesiones supervisadas de levantamiento de pesas, mostró el estudio.

Los resultados aparecen en la edición del 24 de octubre de la revista Journal of the American Geriatrics Society.

“Lo que encontramos en este estudio de seguimiento es que la mejora en la función cognitiva [mental] se relacionaba con las mejoras en su fuerza muscular”, aseguró el autor líder del estudio, Yorgi Mavros, de la facultad de ciencias de la salud de la Universidad de Sídney, en Australia.
