It’s National Taco Day and what better way than to celebrate this joyous occasion, than with some great tacos! According to the National Taco Day website, Americans ate a whopping 4.5 billion tacos last year, which shows how much we love tacos. But, if you’re watching your diet, that’s ok, we’ve found some perfect healthy alternatives to some of your most popular and favorite tacos: carne asada, chicken, al pastor, and fish tacos.
Chicken
One of the healthiest tacos to eat is chicken tacos and this recipe for “Skinny chicken tacos” is packed with flavor and very satisfying.
Al Pastor
Tacos al pastor have quickly become the mainstream pork tacos. They are packed with flavor and beautiful color, which comes from the adobo, not to mention that these tacos come with grilled pineapple salsa, which kicks up the flavor up a notch.
Carne Asada
With carne asada tacos, it’s all about the marinade and the cut of the steak. Most Mexican carne asada tacos are made with arrachera, and it’s very important to keep the steak drenched in marinade before putting it on the grill.
Salmon
Salmon tacos are amazing, but many people get these tacos wrong when they overcook the fish or they don’t season it or marinate it well. This recipe has chile ancho, which help the salmon bring out the beautiful rosy color even more.
Shrimp
Shrimp tacos are just as delicious as fish tacos. If you love spicy food, then you’ll really enjoy these chipotle shrimp tacos. These are very light tacos, but packed with tons of flavor when you add avocado and salsa. Yum!
