“It was very difficult for them and I don’t think they really recovered from that,” explains Lindsley Allen, one of Prince’s dancers. She remembers that they had even built a beautiful playroom and swing set for the child.
“They had a great love for each other. They had a twinkle in their eyes,” explains Allen. “They definitely loved working together. In the studio it seemed like they had a great respect for one another. He loved her as a beautiful dancer and her heart and soul is very genuine and sweet.”
Soon after, Garcia became pregnant again, but miscarried. “To lose two babies is really scary. It really caught me emotionally, physically, everything. It took me at least 15 years to get over it and still, to this day, I miss my son,” said Garcia to the Mirror. “I believe a child dying between a couple either makes you stronger or it doesn’t. For me, it was very, very hard to move forward and for us as a couple I think it probably broke us.” The couple annulled their marriage in 1999 and officially divorced in 2000.
“I loved him then, I love him now, and will love him eternally. He’s with our son now,” said Garcia upon learning of Prince’s death. The legendary singer died at the age of 57 and the cause of his death is still under investigation.
