In addition to lucid dreaming or daydreaming, there are several categories of dreams.
Nightmares. Young children experience nightmares caused by fears of monsters in their closets and under the bed, as well as other types of anxiety. Dreams are not limited to childhood. Many adults, especially those who have suffered real-life trauma, are susceptible to nightmares, such as soldiers returning from war and rescue workers who have been through harrowing situations.
Recurring dreams. Most people have had a recurring dream at one time in their life, a plan that repeats, with minor variations. Recurring dreams can be about any topic, focusing on that topic night after night. Some recurring dreams are positive, but studies indicate that recurring dreams are negative.
Healing dreams. These dreams send a message to the dreamer regarding their health. Healing dreams encourage the dreamer to consult a doctor or dentist.
Prophetic dreams. Also known as precognitive dreams, people who experience these dreams report the ability to use them to predict the future—many dreams of a strange nature as divine gifts.
Do you dream every night? Yes, you dream every night. The dreams most remembered are those closest to waking up. How many dreams do you have in a night? On average, there are four to seven dreams per night. In eight hours of sleep, you will have up to two hours of daydreams.
Do children dream about themselves? Children only dream about themselves once they reach the age of three. Children under the age of three are not characters in their dreams.

What does dreaming mean? Dreams can represent our hopes and fears, our desires and anxieties. They can take us on journeys of exploration and imagination, often allowing us to explore places and ideas that we would not have access to in our waking life. They can reveal hidden truths about ourselves and our lives, and provide creative solutions to our problems. Dreams can also offer insight into our personal and collective history.
