The survey included people in 23 states and the District of Columbia, who were asked if they consumed one or more sugary drinks a day. Percentages of those that did consume at least one sugary drink ranged from 18% to 47.5% and people aged 18 to 24 were most likely to consume at least one sugary drink a day. Among those surveyed, those that were most likely to have at least one of these drinks are men, blacks, unemployed adults and those with less than a high school education. One of the problems is that advertising campaigns for these products cater to young target audiences.
One of the best things to do for your family is stock your fridge with healthy alternatives. Make sure you encourage your children to drink plenty of water and when they have a taste for something sweet, make sure there’s seltzer water, 100 percent juices, soymilk and homemade infused waters in your fridge. Bad habits start at home, so make sure you’re setting a good example for your kids.
