Why make broth out of bones?
Locked inside the hard shell are anti-inflammatory and gut healing properties, there are healthy fats and proteins that will help keep you healthier. Bone broth is great for when you have a cold or have the flu, it does wonders for your immune system. Bones have proteins that help with joint health that help strengthen your bones. Ever wonder why the fat turns into jelly when it gets cold? That’s the collagen from the bones, which is great for your hair, skin, and nails. Plus, if you’re trying to cut back on eating meat– by eating/drinking bone broth you can cut the amount of meat you eat by half and still get the same nutrients from just the broth.
Beef Bone Broth Recipe
- 4 pounds of beef bones, such as oxtail, short ribs or knuckle bones which have a lot of the good stuff
- 2 carrots diced
- 1 medium onion cut in half
- 1 garlic head
- 2 celery stalks diced
- 2 tbsp of black peppercorns
- 12 cups of water
Boil all the ingredients for a couple of hours and add salt as needed. The longer you cook it, the better. You can drink it on its own or add garnish like cilantro and diced onions to make it more hearty.
