What is Patau Syndrome (Trisomy 13)?
Wisin and his wife have a difficult journey ahead. In addition to the child being born with a low birth weight, the child may have other health issues, such as:
- Congenital heart defects
- Holoprosencephaly were the brain doesn’t divide into 2 halves
- Cleft lip and palate
- Nasal malformation
- Hypoterlorism-reduced distance between the eyes
- Learning disabilities
- Problems with breathing
- Microcephaly
- Scalp defects
- Gastrointestinal abnormalities
- Urogenital malformations
- Abnormalities of the hands and feet
Unfortunately, life expectancy with this syndrome is very limited, on average children with this condition live up to 2.5 days, 50% live longer than a week, and only a small percentage, less than 10% live longer than one year.
