Oscar's Winners and Losers Most Powerful Statements

The 2016 Oscars will be remembered as the year of controversial and powerful statements and movements. Throughout the show, host Chris Rock talked about the #OscarsSoWhite issue and while this was expected, there were other award recipients that truly gave inspiring speeches. Mexican Director Alejandro Iñárritu received an Oscar for Best Director for “The Revenant” and he said how lucky he was to be here tonight. “It’s a great opportunity to liberate ourselves from all the prejudice and make sure the color of our skin becomes as irrelevant as the length of our hair.”

Leonardo DiCaprioLeonardo Di Caprio finally won his first Oscar after 5 nominations also won for Best Actor for his role in“The Revenant.” “Making The Revenant was about a man’s relationship to the natural world.” He spoke about the importance of climate change, because it’s something that is real and that is happening right now. “Our production needed to move to the southern tip of this planet just to be able to find snow…It’s the most urgent threat facing our entire species…let’s not take this planet for granted. I do not take tonight for granted,” said Di Caprio.
