What Are the Benefits?
Alkaline water is rich in alkalizing compounds, such as calcium, silica, potassium, magnesium, and bicarbonate. There are critics that say that this is just overpriced water, but there have been few studies that show that this type of water can have these added benefits:
- Help soothe acid reflux
- Neutralizes acid in the bloodstream
- Improves energy and metabolism
- Antioxidant properties
- Cleanses colon
- Rejuvenates skin
- Lubricates muscles and joints
- Reduces body fat
- Reduces fatigue
- Supports the immune system
- More hydrating than regular water
Many people have gone as far as following an alkaline diet, which is a low-calorie diet comprised in eating alkaline foods, such as fruits and vegetables and whole grains. According to the Acid Alkaline Association Diet, they recommend eating the following:
- Vegetables: Beets, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Celery, Cucumber, Kale, Lettuce, Onions, Peas, Peppers, Spinach
- Fruits: Apple, Banana, Berries, Cantaloupe, Grapes, Melon, Lemon, Orange, Peach, Pear, Watermelon
- Protein: Almonds, Chestnuts, Tofu

At this point, there aren’t that many studies showing it’s negative effects, which is a good thing. Plus, any diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, and water is A-ok!
